Manitowoc is displaying one of its latest Grove all-terrain cranes, the GMK5095, at Intermat 2009. The crane is one of five in the five-axle category produced by Grove, reinforcing its market leadership in that capacity class.

Neil Hollingshead, Manitowoc’s global product manager for all-terrain cranes and rough-terrain cranes, said that Grove offers the best choice of cranes in the five-axle category.

“There is no doubt that Grove’s offering in the five-axle category is the strongest in the all-terrain crane marketplace,” he said. “Each crane offers advantages in terms of lift  capacity, ease of transport and on-site productivity. Depending on a customer’s market and what they are looking to achieve, we can almost guarantee we have one or more cranes from our five-axle offering that are perfect for them.”

The Grove GMK5095 is a 100 t capacity crane with a seven-section 60 m telescopic boom, the longest in its class. It has a 10/22 m swingaway jib, and its maximum tip height is 83 m. Roadability for the GMK5095 is excellent, with the crane able to travel with 13.9 t of counterweight within the 12 t per axle limit. The crane includes all the features that appear throughout the GMK range and also has the latest carrier cab for improved ergonomics and functionality.

All crane operations, including both superstructure and carrier functions, are controlled via Manitowoc’s ECOS system. Working in tandem with the ECOS system, the GMK5095 is also equipped with the EKS 5 light load monitoring system. EKS monitors the crane’s lifting operations at all times. It provides a warning alert for faults or errors and can transmit data to any Manitowoc Crane Care center worldwide, allowing fast and accurate diagnosis and rapid repairs.

The GMK5095 crane is built at the Manitowoc factory in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, which opened a new 2,670 m2 production facility in September last year. Other five-axle all-terrain cranes Manitowoc manufactures at the GMK center of excellence in Wilhelmshaven are the 110 t capacity GMK5110-1, the 130 t GMK5130-2, the 170 t GMK5170 and the 220 t GMK5220. With this wide-ranging selection in one of the most popular all-terrain crane categories, Manitowoc has the most complete range and is able to supply a crane to suit virtually any market or application.

Also on the Manitowoc stand at Intermat is the 35 t capacity RT540 from the Grove rough-terrain crane range. This model is built by Manitowoc at its factories in Shady Grove, Pa., U.S., and Niella Tanaro, Italy.
