Indian steel manufacturer takes delivery of Model 12000 

A Manitowoc Model 12000 belonging to Steel Authority of India helps with expansion work at the company’s Rourkela plant in India.

Steel Authority of India Limited has taken delivery of its first 110 t (120 USt) capacity Manitowoc Model 12000. The crawler crane will be used to pick various loads including columns, girders, and heavy fabricated structures during expansion work at its Rourkela plant. The crane was sold by Manitowoc dealer TIL Limited.   
 

Under the new modernization project, the plant’s production capacity will increase from 2.1 million to 4.5 million t (2.3 million to 5 million USt) of steel product. Rourkela was the first integrated steel plant in the public sector in India with an installed capacity of 1 million t (1.1 million USt). 
 

The Model 12000 from Manitowoc has a maximum main boom of 70.1 m (230 ft) and a maximum jib of 82.3 m (270 ft). The crane has a rated line pull of 11,400 kg (25,100 lb) and can reach speeds of 120 m/min (394 ft/min).
