On display at the International Construction and Utility Equipment Expo in Louisville, Ky., is a National Crane 1100 series mounted on a Prinoth Go-Tract 3000 crawler carrier.
The crane, which is fitted with a man-basket, is part of a large fleet of similar units owned by NESCO Sales based in Bluffton, Ind. NESCO rents these specialty units to customers throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. NESCO has opted for the National Crane 1100 series because it has a maximum tip height of 161 ft and each is equipped with a wireless remote that allows workers to hoist themselves to the heights required for installing power transmission lines. Jameson Rinnger, from NESCO Sales, says that the tip height, coupled with the tracked carrier unit make these cranes perfect for power line installation.
“The tracked carriers make it much easier for our rental customers to maneuver the crane through rugged, mountainous areas where transmission line right-of-ways are typically located,” he said. “That, coupled with the crane’s superior tip height, means we can provide our customers with a crane that helps them efficiently install power lines in the field.”
The National Crane 1100 series also has excellent characteristics when used as a traditional crane to lift loads, rather than personnel. At a 5 ft radius, the 1100 series has a 28 USt capacity. The 105 ft four-section boom is the longest in its class, allowing more lifts without a jib. Triple pump hydraulics and advanced control valve technology provide smooth and reliable operation for precise load positioning.
